Why Only Two?

Why only two...political parties covered in the media?  Why do we allow the political discourse to be framed only in terms of Republicans and Democrats--two parties void of anything new to say or different from one another--when there are at least two other parties with something to say and add?  I refer to my party, the Greens; and, while I don't agree with them, the Libertarians?

The Green Party just held it's national convention in Chicago to nominate Cynthia McKiney as our presidential nominee.  Coverage in the Austin-American Statesman? Zero.  And yet, the Greens (and in their own way the Libertarians) have much to offer to the debate, the discourse, and the possibilities in local, state and yes, eventually, the national scene.

Write your local newspaper editor and ask them to give the Green and Libertarian parties the same coverage afforded the Republicans and Democrats.  Write your state representatives and demand that access to the ballot for so-called "third parties" be made equal to that of the major parties which have a strangle-hold on the election process.

Don't let the media--and the Republicans and Democrats--decide how large the tent is and who will be included inside.  We deserve more choices.
