The News Media

Does everyone know that it is not against the law for the news to lie to us?
You can hate obama or bush or clinton, but America's public enemy #1 is a foreigner and not bin laden, terrorist that he is. The man who has been distorting the news and our democracy for over thirty years with ever increasing power is rupert murdock. Ever since he bought the new york post the news media, which was barely informative to start with, has turned ever more to preaching opinions without factual
information to back it up. Take the claim that the public health care options contain "death" panels and ask yourselves what we have now. Presumably even government insurance claims would have to be approved by someone and could indeed be denied. But what would be the gain for a public employee to deny needed coverage to someone? We have the equivalent of death panels NOW! and the incentives are raises and promotions for those who can deny coverage to people who need it. Why?
The difference is that private insurance companies exist for profit and if they can deny coverage it increases their profits. Their primary concern, under law created by the conservative supreme court, is to their stockholders. So if one of their bureaucrats can find a loophole to deny you that expensive operation you need and you die as a result, not only is it legal but if done enough times that person may be promoted to a more important position. Without a change in the law to make it a crime for the news media to lie we are dead in the water.
