As Governor George W. Bush ran for President in 2000, reporters and pundits trotted out sound-bite versions of a lesson students have been taught about Texas for years: Compared to the U.S. President or the chief executives of other states, the Texas Governor occupies a "weak" office.
Economy
Dear, Dear Presidential Candidates
- Posted by citizenKThe immigration bill appears dead.
What are you doing to insure that this issue does not get swept under the economic carpet??
Thank you for the prompt response.
IMMIGRATION BILL IS DEAD
- Posted by citizenKNow that the immigration bill is dead, we can look forward to not seeing this issue come up for a while.
Without fear and further delay, our lawns will get mowed, our dishes bused and our homes built.
I trust that the unemploymnet rate will not go up as our citizens will not lose their jobs to illegals.
If we devoted as much money to border security as we do to Iraq, the problem would be easily solved.
Retirement Worries
- Posted by KellysA majority (61 percent) of working Americans said in a November 2002 survey conducted for American Express that they were experiencing moderate to high levels of financial stress, and one-quarter believed their financial stress had gotten worse in the last 18-24 months.
In addition, the survey found women 50 percent more likely than men to have experienced high or extremely high levels of financial stress in the previous 18-24 months.
Support Our Troops by Bringing Them Home?
- Posted by KellysDemocrats appear to be making good on their claim in the 2006 Congressional campaigns that, if elected, they would withdraw U.S. troops in Iraq. They are therefore also promoting (and reflecting) the view that the Iraq war is separate from the war on terror.
Wal Mart at Northcross Mall
- Posted by KellysA 24-hour Wal-Mart Supercenter is planned for Northcross Mall at Anderson Lane and Burnet Road. Neighbors say the 225,000-square-foot store will snarl traffic and ruin the area’s character.
A grassroots group called Responsible Growth 4 Northcross (RG4N) has been battling Wal-Mart since the plans were announced in November. They've petitioned the development, Wal-Mart and even the city to find another location.
